CEA one-step quick test is a quick performing immunoassay designed for the determination of human CEA in serum/plasma.
It is intended for professional use as an aid to monitor the treatment of malignant patients.
Carcinoembryonic Antigen (CEA) is a heterogeneous group of glycoprotein of approximately 800 amino acids and a molecular weight of approximately 200,000 Dalton. The carbohydrate composition of CEA may range from 50-85% of the total molecular weight.
The
clinical studies inducate that CEA, although originally thought to be specific
for digestive tract cancers, is also elevated in other malignancies and in some
malignant disorders and heavy cigarette smoking.
The measurement of serum CEA levels is very useful in monitoring the treatment of patients with colorectal, breast, lungs, prostates, liver, stomach, pancreatic, ovarian and a variety of other carcinomas. Serial monitoring of serum CEA concentrations from patients with diagnosed malignancies may provide prognostic information concerning the effective.
An NCA consensus statement has declared that CEA is the best monitoring tool for monitoring patients with colorectal cancer. CEA levels have been observed in CSF and may be useful in establishing the presence of primary or metastatic CNS tumors.
